UPCOMING EVENT
THE CROSSING’ by Bao Vuong

Vietnam Art House is honored to announce a solo exhibition of “The Crossing” of
new and recent works by Bao Vuong, his debut in the Netherlands.

The exhibition dates will be: 2 October - 25 October 2022

‘The Crossing’
In twelve remarkable, monochrome-black paintings of an endless sea by night, Bao takes the
viewer into the dark world between hope and fear. The nocturnal sea is the eternal place in
which the wandering man (from Odysseus to the boat refugees of our day) must try to find
hope in the slightest ray of light from moon and stars, as well as from the knowledge that
even the largest sea is bound to end ashore. The works are modest and powerful at the
same time, confronting as they convey a sense of utter loneliness. And yet are they never
without hope, never without a sparkle of light. And, Bao will present an exclusive series of paintings introducing a new medium.

About Bao Vuong
Bao Vuong, was born in the late seventies, and was only a few months old when he, his
family and hundreds of other Vietnamese boat people, drifted perilously over high seas for
months. After being miraculously rescued, he spent a period of living in different refugee
camps in Malaysia and Indonesia. The family was finally granted asylum in France. Bao then
received his artistic education in the south of France. His works are comprised of paintings,
installations and performances. Key to his work is the uprooting of memories, the
reconstruction of a buried past. Bao Vuong works mostly in France, Belgium and Vietnam.
